I just wanted to relay that we have received a communication from the Podcast provider Stitcher regarding their decision to “discontinue operation of the Stitcher app and the website effective August 29, 2023”. According to their email, this will also include the Stitcher Premium service. They go on to say that podcasts that use the Simplecast Creator Connect platform to submit and manage podcasts will still continue to be distributed on the other platforms that use Simplecast Creator Connect. Additionally, there was no reason provided in their communication as to why this decision was made.
So, what does this mean for RMRR & Waymaker? Well, in reality, it doesn’t affect us at all. A very small percentage of our Podcast listeners utilize the Stitcher platform for our content. And while we recognize that this is a potential problem for a small portion of our listeners, I did want to address the issue as a whole and remind our Stitcher listeners that there are still plenty of other Podcast Providers that carry our content. We have been informed that after August 29, 2023, Podcast listeners will no longer be able to access content on the Stitcher app. Most Stitcher website pages will be redirected to their sister app, Pandora. No new listener data (after August 29) will be populated via Creator Connect or other listening hosts that previously populated the Stitcher app. Furthermore, the app will no longer be available for download from app stores. And finally, on Aug 29, the app may be opened, but listeners will no longer be able to access their downloads, listening history, preferences or show lists.
