That’s right! Happy 247th Birthday America! Today we celebrate the signing of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. The Continental Congress wrote and ratified the Declaration of Independence to establish an American colony that would no longer be under the rule and governance of Great Britain.
The Revolutionary War began in 1775 and the colonies realized that fighting wasn’t enough. They realized that they needed to Declare Independence from Great Britain in writing. It was the hope that by writing the Declaration it would further explain to Britain their reasons why they were wanting sovereignty. In addition, it was hoped that the Declaration would garner support of allies in the War against Britain.
Britain refused to recognize &/or accept the Declaration of Independence by the 13 American Colonies. Therefore, the Revolutionary War continued until 1783 when the Colonies finally defeated Great Britain.
The Declaration of Independence not only establishes an Independent America, but it also is an important message, recognized around the world, in regards to self-governance and basic human rights. Thomas Jefferson wrote the second sentence in the Declaration which states: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”
Today, we celebrate this milestone in American History. In fact, John Adams, one of the authors & signers of the Declaration, as well as the 2nd President of the United States, wrote to his wife Abigail a prediction that the colonists’ independence would be celebrated by future generations as an annual festival with parades and bonfires. Hmmm… such a wise man!
All of us here at Rocky Mountain Revival Radio & Waymaker Ministries pause to celebrate the sacrifices and wisdom of our Forefathers. These men had the wisdom to recognize the need to secure these basic human rights and to stand up to an unjust government, to seek freedom from such government, and to institute a new government that was of the people, for the people and by the people.
Today we pause to give thanks to those who have fought for and died to protect those freedoms we so cherish and celebrate today. We honor the fallen and will never let those sacrifices be empty or in vein.
Today we pray for the United States of America. We pray that God will have mercy on this Great Nation and that He will redeem this land so it may continue to stand as a beacon and hope for the rest of the world. We pray for each and everyone of our listeners/viewers today. We thank God for you and pray that you are safe, happy, healthy and successful at all that you do. And finally, we pray that everyone has a Safe & Happy 4th of July Celebration.
